21 Bundles Month 5 (September 2014) Review

My Month 5 21 Bundles box FINALLY arrived this past weekend, here’s what was inside:

THE BOX:

SubBoxesOct14 001

As you may have noticed, my box shipment was delayed.  I contacted the company and was informed that they were out of one of the products, and instead of substituting the item, they decided to wait until the product came back in stock.  To compensate, they said that they upgraded one of my sample items to full size (not sure which one?)!  In addition, I received the following hand written note in my box!

SubBoxesOct14 003

I definitely felt like they appreciate my business!

**Side note though – I never did receive an email description of the box items, which is fine, I could figure it out.  But I do miss the little “Month X” sticker!!

THE COST:

21 Bundles costs $39.99 per month, $109.99 for 3 months ($36.66/month), or $209.99 for 6 months ($35/month).

21 Bundles catch is they deliver hand selected natural products tailored to your stage of pregnancy and the first year of your baby’s life.  9 months pregnancy + 12 months = 21 bundles!

THE GOODS:

SubBoxesOct14 005

Attitude Little Ones Laundry Detergent – 35.5 fl oz (FULL SIZE) – $16

This product is carcinogen free, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic!  My regular laundry detergent is seventh generation, but I’m excited to see how well this works!  It’s supposed to work well for cloth diapers too, which we intend on using!

Dapple Naturally Clean Baby Laundry Stain Remover – 16.9 fl oz (FULL SIZE) – $4

Ah – I’m sure this product will get much use as well!  I like that it is free of all the nasties and appears to have pretty good ratings!  Also good for cloth diapers 🙂

SubBoxesOct14 006

e-cloth Washing Up Pad – 1 pad – $6.75

Ah – I can always use more scrub pads!  I always seem to go back to the “green scratchies” though, so excited to see how well this works!

LifeTree Dish Soap – 16 fl oz (FULL SIZE) – $6.50

Now this product I HAVE used before… and I LOVED it!  I just hadn’t gotten around to buying for 2 reasons, 1) hadn’t ran across it in the store and 2) I do have a lot of dish soaps under the sink already.  That being said, this one is going to the top of the pile! 🙂   PS – I think I’m probably one of the few people in the world that can get excited over dish soap – LOL!

SubBoxesOct14 007

Acure Peppermint Argan Oil Castile Soap – 16 oz (FULL SIZE) – $10

Alright – going to be honest, I have no idea what castile soap is.  This is probably around the time that a description sheet would be helpful!  I did find the following article that shows that this product has several different uses: 12 Great Ways to Use Castile Soap  but to be honest, still not sure what to use this for!  Maybe the Husband will know more.

Acure Dark Chocolate + Mint Argan Oil Lip Balm – 1 tube – $4

Ah – I will not be using this.  I am allergic to chocolate, but I’m sure others would love this!

Motherlove Pregnant Belly Salve – 3 ml – $0.50

I am not a fan of foil packets… it seems like there’s  never enough there to really see if you like a product or not.  Nevertheless, this WILL get used!  I’m on a “buttering the belly” twice a day regimen!

THE VERDICT:

I paid $40 for my 21 Bundles box and received approximately $48 worth of product!  I do know that one of the items was full size that wasn’t supposed to be, but no clue which one!  I’m guessing without this upgrade, the box would have been a little over $40.  I love the curation of this box, but LOVED last months value more! haha!  That being said, I loved this months theme!  I seem to get overwhelmed with all of the beauty products, and love that this month focused on other aspects of “greening” up your life!  I can’t wait to see what Month 6 brings!

October 2014 Goodebox Review

My October 2014 Goodebox arrived the other day, here’s what was inside:

THE BOX:

SubBoxesSept14-2 002

THE PRICE:

$18/month and you can sign up for either monthly or bi-monthly membership

THE GOODS:

SubBoxesSept14-2 003

Unik Anti-Aging Day Cream and Night Cream – 0.34 oz each – $18 $12 each (according to card) = $36 $24 Thanks Melissa!

These appear to be from a European company – and the full price is around $50 USD.  Only problem, I can’t seem to find a size for the full size product.

CV Skinlabs Restorative Skin Balm – 0.25 oz – $13

This product is supposed to be good for lips, cuticles, eczema, cuts, scrapes, etc.  I have a few of these type products laying around – I always forget to use them though.  Guess I’m just a regular lotion type person.

SubBoxesSept14-2 005

Vapour Mesmerize Eye Shimmer – travel size – $1

I really dislike these little Vapour samples.  I’ve received a few of them, and the product is so tiny, you can’t really even get a good use out of it.  This will honestly probably just get thrown away.

Jillian Wright Skincare Gentle Peptide Cleanser – 0.5 oz (?) – ~$4.75

This is the second Jillian Wright sample I’ve received this month – the company must be new or pushing out their products!  Oh well, I’ll take facial cleanser!

Earthwise Beauty Pumpkin & Papaya Seed Organic Face Scrub & Mask – 0.25 oz (?) – ~$4

Everything’s made with pumpkin this time of year!  Ha!  Anyway, I will use this as a scrub instead of mask, but it’ll get used!

THE VERDICT:

I paid $18 for my October 2014 Goodebox and received approximately $58 $46 worth of product (some total guesses on pricing though).  Even though this box had a higher value, I was still underwhelmed with the products.  This was my last Goodebox (cancelled last month, but I guess this box had already shipped).  I am just more interested in baby/pregnancy type products these days 🙂

September/October 2014 Ecocentric Mom “Mom-to-Be” Review

My Ecocentric Mom “Mom-to-Be” box arrived this past week – here’s what was inside!

THE BOX:

SubBoxesSept14-2 007

THE COST:

Ecocentric Mom costs $24 every-other month.  They offer a “Mom” box, a “Mom-to-Be” box, and a “Baby” box!  Right now I am subscribed for the “mom-to-be” but if I hold onto this subscription, I will switch to “baby” closer to the due date!

Their boxes ship in January, March, May, July, September & November.

THE GOODS:

 SubBoxesSept14-2 010

Arora Creations “Bhindi Masala” Spice Blend – 0.5 oz – $3.99

This product is a mix of turmeric, red pepper, ground coriander, ground cumin, salt and other seasonings.  I’m not quite sure if it sounds good or not to be honest!  But we do have lots of green beans from the garden this year, so will have to give it a try!

Bakery on Main Instant Oatmeal – 1.75 oz – $1

I’m not a huge oatmeal person, but I definitely enjoy it when it’s cold out or when I’m not feeling the best – and I have to say that this flavor “maple muffin” sounds pretty tasty!

Annie’s Organic Cheddar Snack Mix Bunnies – 1 oz – ~$0.60

I love Annie’s products and this snack mix is right up there as one of my favorites!  Consider this demolished!

SubBoxesSept14-2 012

Salon Solids Conditioner – 2 oz – $3

This product is pretty neat – it’s basically a bottle with granules in it and you add your own water to make the conditioner.  That being said, I’m not entirely certain why this is better then a premixed conditioner, except perhaps lower shipping costs?? Curious to see how well it works though!

Jillian Wright “Breakout Blocker” Serum – 3 ml – ~$7.75

Wow – this is a pretty expensive product!  That always scares me a little, because if I really like it, I still won’t buy it… Nevertheless, this item is supposed to help control bacteria.

7th Heaven Natural Skin Mask Moroccan Clay – 1 mask – $2.99

I seem to have received a lot of masks through subscription boxes, and I’m still not very good at using them.  This will get added to the pile and probably get used at some point!

SubBoxesSept14-2 014

The Organic Face “Femme Fatale” Eye Shadow Quad in Mesa – full size! – $25

Ah – the inevitable downfall with eye shadow quads – I love two of the colors, and will never use the other two!  Not sure if I will end up using this for that reason or swapping to someone that can hopefully utilize the entire product!

PureProC Silk Smoothing Gel and Hydrating Serum – 0.08 oz / 0.1 oz – $13+ $6 = $19

Again – another product that the full retail is just too high for me to ever really enjoy using this… I’m not huge on serum type products either – so will likely just end up swapping this.

WooBamboo Slim Handle Bamboo Toothbrush – $4.95

Well I’m glad that they sent a “slim” and “soft” bristle version.  I guess a toothbrush is a toothbrush?? I always end up buying the same one at the store, but perhaps I’ll try this to see how I like it!

SubBoxesSept14-2 015

Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin Book – $6.29

Ah – this book is MUCH better then the previous book I received from Ecocentric Mom!!  It’s actually pretty cute!

THE VERDICT:

I paid $24 for my Ecocentric Mom “Mom-to-Be” box and received approximately $74 worth of product!  A few misses for me, but I LOVE the mix of different types of products (food, makeup, tools, etc.)!  I do wish there would have been more than one baby item, but overall pretty impressed!!

Overview of his box from Birchbox:

SubBoxesSept14 010

Blind Barber Watermint Gin Shave Cream – 1.2 oz – $5.28

Husband has this brand in the cupboard (came from a swap site) and loves it, so I’m sure he didn’t mind receiving this sample!

das boom industries Bay Rum, Smoke & Dirt Lotion – 1 oz – $3

Ha!  I think they were stretching a little to get a “man” smelling lotion…

Baxter of California Deodorant – 1.2 oz – $8.15

This is an aluminum-free deodorant made with tea tree oil and chamomile.  I think Husband is actually really excited to give this a try!

SubBoxesSept14 012

Quirky Organizer Trio – Cordies, Wrapter, and Bandits – $11.97

I’ve actually been eyeing this cordies thing for awhile to keep the cords on my desk – will have to see if I can steal from Husband.. LOL, nevertheless I think he was pretty excited for this whole set of items (he’s really into this kind of “techie” thing).

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s October 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $28 for his $20 subscription.  Well definitely not the highest value of box that he’s ever received he LOVED this month’s box!  I guess goes to show it’s not only about value!!

September 2014 Goodebox Review

Here’s what was in my September 2014 Goodebox:

THE BOX:

SubBoxesSept14 002

THE PRICE:

$18/month and you can sign up for either monthly or bi-monthly membership

THE GOODS:

SubBoxesSept14 003

Barre3 Wristband, Barre3 Challenge Field Guide, and Month of Free Online Access to Barre3 – $15 (online access) + $3 Bracelet + $2 Book (?) = ~$20

I won’t be using this, but a neat idea I guess.

SubBoxesSept14 004

Simply Coconut Head-to-Toe Cleansing Bar – travel size – $2

I don’t use bar soap a lot – seems like they always dry out my skin regardless of how “awesome” they are supposed to be…

Jacobsen Salt Pure Flake Sea Salt – slide tin – $2.95

This is just weird to me.. I guess I don’t take my salt with me when I go places…

SubBoxesSept14 005

Plant Life Arnica Relief Gel – 1 oz? – $4?

I actually am kind of excited about this item!

SquareHue Nail Polish in Rambla de Raval – Full Size – $5

This item was actually quite odd to me – Square Hue is another monthly subscription box… not sure why Goodebox was “subscribing” for them?  Nevertheless, this is actually a fun fall color! and I don’t mind the consistency.  Still not going to subscribe to a nail polish subscription though!

SubBoxesSept14 006

The All Natural Face Matte Cream Blush in Dusky Rose – 3g – $1

I’m not very good at cream blush, but don’t mind this color so will give it a shot!

Welda Skin Food – 3 foil packs 1.5 ml each – 4.5 ml total – $1.16

THE VERDICT:

I paid $18 for my September 2014 Goodebox and received approximately $21 ($36 if you count the online access) worth of product.  This box was completely underwhelming for me and I actually cancelled after receiving.  In all fairness I have been contemplating cancelling this for awhile just due to the amount of samples I have floating around, but just haven’t been loving the boxes recently either.  I just got a shipping notification for October, so I must have already paid for that box, which means I’ll be getting on more – hopefully it’ll be a win for me!

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s September 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $64 for his $20 subscription.  This box had amazing value, but unfortunately the high value item was not a win for Husband.  He has had many wins in past boxes though, so oh well!

Earth Mama Angel Baby Organic Heartburn Tea – 16 Tea Bags – $6

I just haven’t been drinking tea the last few months (who wants tea in the  middle of the summer??!)  and fortunately I haven’t had heartburn problems yet.  I will hold on to this to see if it comes in handy in the next few months (let’s hope not!)

Acure Facial Toner – 2 fl oz (FULL SIZE) – $16

I have tried the Acure brand several times and am always impressed!  I don’t often use facial toner, but maybe I will after trying this!

THE VERDICT:

I paid $40 for my 21 Bundles box and received approximately $63 worth of product!  I had actually thought I calculated something wrong as my two previous boxes have been right around the $40 value… and I’m stoked that there was a little “extra” in this month’s box!  I hope they keep up this trend! 🙂
