Husband’s November 2014 Birchbox Man contained the following items:

THE COST:

Men’s Subscription ($20/Month):  Grooming products and accessories ranging from socks to tech accessories

THE GOODS:

Overview of his box from Birchbox:

SubBoxesNov14 015

Alternative Apparel Basic Crew T-shirt – $28

This shirt was too small for Husband – but it’s a really nice T-shirt (super soft) so I will be wearing it for a sleep shirt!!

SubBoxesNov14 018

Davines Naturaltech Rebalancing Shampoo – 100 ml – $10.20

I really like the Davines brand (as does Husband) so this product is a win for both of us 🙂

Do The Right Thing Face to Face Foam Cleanser – 15 ml – $2.30

Husband really likes this cleaner too (he got a chance to sample before my review since I’m posting so late!)

Hanz de Fuko Sponge Wax – 0.25 oz? – $2?

Husband hasn’t gotten around to trying this yet, but I know he really likes the claymation hair stuff they make!

Clark’s Botanicals Smoothing Marine Cream – 0.1 oz? – $7?

Husband hasn’t tried this either.  I think he might be scared that he’ll like it too much as it’s SUPER expensive!

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s November 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $50 for his $20 subscription.  I know he doesn’t get to enjoy the highest value item in the box (the t-shirt), but I don’t think he minds passing it to me since a lot of my sleep shirts don’t fit anymore!!

Blind Barber Watermint Gin Shave Cream – 1.2 oz – $5.28

Husband has this brand in the cupboard (came from a swap site) and loves it, so I’m sure he didn’t mind receiving this sample!

das boom industries Bay Rum, Smoke & Dirt Lotion – 1 oz – $3

Ha!  I think they were stretching a little to get a “man” smelling lotion…

Baxter of California Deodorant – 1.2 oz – $8.15

This is an aluminum-free deodorant made with tea tree oil and chamomile.  I think Husband is actually really excited to give this a try!

SubBoxesSept14 012

Quirky Organizer Trio – Cordies, Wrapter, and Bandits – $11.97

I’ve actually been eyeing this cordies thing for awhile to keep the cords on my desk – will have to see if I can steal from Husband.. LOL, nevertheless I think he was pretty excited for this whole set of items (he’s really into this kind of “techie” thing).

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s October 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $28 for his $20 subscription.  Well definitely not the highest value of box that he’s ever received he LOVED this month’s box!  I guess goes to show it’s not only about value!!

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s September 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $64 for his $20 subscription.  This box had amazing value, but unfortunately the high value item was not a win for Husband.  He has had many wins in past boxes though, so oh well!

August 2014 Birchbox Man Review

Husband’s August 2014 Birchbox Man arrived this past week – here’s what was inside:

THE BOX:

(Husband got box 10 this month – how do you tell?  Log in to birchbox and scroll down to the box history, click the link and the last one or two digits (https://www.birchbox.com/men/box/august-2014/august-2014-mb10) are the box number – you can see all of the other boxes by changing this number!)

July boxes2 023

THE COST:

Men’s Subscription ($20/Month):  Grooming products and accessories ranging from socks to tech accessories

THE GOODS:

Overview of his box from Birchbox:

July boxes2 024

English Laundry Pomade – 0.5 oz? – $4?

Husband uses hair style products on occasion, so I’m sure this will get used!

Air Repair Rescue Balm – 0.3 oz? – $4?

To be honest, I might be stealing this item from Husband!  Meant for dry skin (anywhere!)

Billy Jealousy Facial Cleanser – 1 oz – $2.50

Husband always seems to get facial cleanser in his Birchbox!  I think there’s seriously like 5 samples at a time in the shower… Last month he gave it to a friend, maybe I can convince him to do this again!  LOL…

Proraso Liquid After Shave Cream – 0.8 oz – $3.30

Husband also has many after shave creams, but again, I know they’ll get used.  I guess Birchbox’s one downfall is that he’ll never actually buy face was or after shave or shave cream just due to all the same samples!

July boxes2 026

Grover Boxers – $22

Husband typically wears boxer briefs, but he’ll still give these a shot.  It’s been a long time since he wore actual “boxers”, so they very well may end up at the back of the drawer.

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s May 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $36 for his $20 subscription.  I don’t think this is one of his favorite boxes, but will probably depend on how much he ends up liking the boxers.  I think that’s probably the riskiest thing about Birchbox Man is that if you don’t like the lifestyle item, the box can be a flop.  We’ve definitely had a lot of “wins” though, so overall I think it works out good for Husband!

The Barber (July 2014) Bespoke Post Review

Husband’s July 2014 Bespoke Post “The Barber” box arrived the other day – here’s what was inside:

THE BOX:

 July boxes2 028

THE COST:

$45/Month (can opt out any month)

THE GOODS:

 July boxes2 030

Double Edge Safety Razor by Standard Razors – $79

So Husband has been shaving with a safety razor for quite a while now (about a year?) and he also has a “Guide to Gourmet Shaving” book that has officially made it’s rounds with ALL of his friends – which they all shave with safety razors now too!  He went down this route due to problems with razor burn caused by the “5-blade” razors.

Anyway – in the book the guy (the author?) uses this razor.  So even though he had a safety razor, he opted for this month’s box anyway.  He shaved with this razor for the first time this morning, and I swear it was like watching a kid in a candy shop!  He absolutely loved it!  I don’t know much about safety razors, but apparently this one is the bee’s knees!  So with this one item alone, he more then got his value out of the box!

Razor Blades – (2) 5 packs – $2

So this is another great part about safety razors, the blades are SUPER cheap!  I didn’t add a link above, but just go to Amazon and search!  When Husband started out on this journey we bought him a HUGE mixed pack of all different types of blades so he could figure out which ones he likes best (everyone’s hair is different so ones he loves his friends hate, and vice versa).  I think he still has a bunch of those left (and not sure if these are repeats), but I know he’ll at least try them!

Gentleman Jon Alum Block – $6

This is actually something Husband doesn’t have yet for shaving, so I think he was pretty excited!  He doesn’t knick himself often, but it does happen – the alum block is meant to help stop bleeding by closing up your pores.

July boxes2 033

Elizabeth Street Shaving Cream – 2 oz – $12

Husband switches it up all the time between creams and soaps.  I honestly don’t know what he prefers?  He gets so many samples with his Birchbox Man, I think that’s why he does so much variation?  Nevertheless, this will get used too!

Barber Towel – $5?

I am not sure a brand on this towel, so totally guessing on price.  Again this is something that Husband doesn’t have, so I’m curious to see how he likes it!  The hot towel is a staple of the “barber shop” experience.  I know they sell towel warmers (not that you need it) but thinking that’d be a good gift idea in the future if he loves this step!

THE VERDICT:

Husband paid $45 and received approximately $104 worth of product for the July 2014 The Barber Bespoke Post!  I know he is over the moon with this month’s box and I would have to say based on his reaction, I would DEFINITELY recommend this box to any man in your life that isn’t happy with his normal shave routine!  The only items that aren’t included that I know H would recommend is a badger shaving brush (he has a ~$60 one that some guys in Wisconsin hand make, unfortunately I don’t know the brand off hand – anyway, he LOVES that one – the previous one he had kept shedding like crazy), some after shave oil (again, not sure which brand, but I know that is something he loves using), and of course, the infamous Guide to Gourmet Shaving book.  You will be their hero.

This has quickly become one of Husband’s favorite boxes and I know he can’t wait to see what boxes Bespoke Post releases next month!

Bespoke Post Bask (June 2014) Review

Husband’s June 2014 Bespoke Post “Bask” box arrived last week – here’s what was inside:

THE BOX:

 July boxes 013

THE COST:

$45/Month (can opt out any month)

THE GOODS:

 July boxes 014

Go Throw Linen Blanket – $125

This blanket was definitely the reason we got this month’s box!  Note it’s not folded the nicest as it has already been unfolded and used! 🙂  Amazing!  The blanket folds up super small and lightweight, but is a generous 6.75′ x 4.25′ in size!

 July boxes 015

Checkers/Chess Kit – $20?

Haven’t used this kit yet, and not really sure that we will, but doesn’t really matter as the blanket more then made up the value of this box!

THE VERDICT:

We paid $45 and received approximately $145 worth of product for the June 2014 Bask Bespoke Post!  Love this month’s box!!

July 2014 Birchbox Man Review

So.. I’m really behind on box reviews – here’s Husband’s July 2014 Birchbox Man:

THE BOX:

(Husband got box 18 this month – how do you tell?  Log in to birchbox and scroll down to the box history, click the link and the last one or two digits (https://www.birchbox.com/men/box/july-2014/july-2014-bb18) are the box number – you can see all of the other boxes by changing this number!)

THE GOODS:

Overview of his box from Birchbox:

July boxes 006

Atelier Cologne Mistral Patchouli – 1 ml – $1.25

I HATE the smell of patchouli – let’s just say that we finally lost the streak of good cologne smells…

Baxter of California Oil Free Moisturizer – 0.5 fl oz – $2.75

I think Husband really likes this brand – so I’m sure he’ll enjoy this.

Billy Jealousy Fuzzy Logic Hair Strengthening Shampoo – 1 oz – $2.75

This is another repeat brand that I think Husband likes

Ursa Major Fantastic Face Wash – 1 oz – $3.25 (not pictured)

Husband actually gave this item away to a friend – he has so many face wash samples stacked up.

July boxes 007

Bread & Boxers Boxer Briefs – 1 pair – $18

I’m not so sure I like the color of these (tighty whitey flash back much? LOL) – but I’m sure Husband will wear!

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s July 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $28 for his $20 subscription.  I think he’ll use everything in this month’s box (with the exception of the face wash he gave away and the patchouli cologne), so still probably a win!
