August 2014 Birchbox Man Review

Husband’s August 2014 Birchbox Man arrived this past week – here’s what was inside:

(Husband got box 10 this month – how do you tell?  Log in to birchbox and scroll down to the box history, click the link and the last one or two digits ( are the box number – you can see all of the other boxes by changing this number!)

  July boxes2 020

July boxes2 023

Men’s Subscription ($20/Month):  Grooming products and accessories ranging from socks to tech accessories

Overview of his box from Birchbox:

July boxes2 024

English Laundry Pomade – 0.5 oz? – $4?

Husband uses hair style products on occasion, so I’m sure this will get used!

Air Repair Rescue Balm – 0.3 oz? – $4?

To be honest, I might be stealing this item from Husband!  Meant for dry skin (anywhere!)

Billy Jealousy Facial Cleanser – 1 oz – $2.50

Husband always seems to get facial cleanser in his Birchbox!  I think there’s seriously like 5 samples at a time in the shower… Last month he gave it to a friend, maybe I can convince him to do this again!  LOL…

Proraso Liquid After Shave Cream – 0.8 oz – $3.30

Husband also has many after shave creams, but again, I know they’ll get used.  I guess Birchbox’s one downfall is that he’ll never actually buy face was or after shave or shave cream just due to all the same samples!

July boxes2 026

Grover Boxers – $22

Husband typically wears boxer briefs, but he’ll still give these a shot.  It’s been a long time since he wore actual “boxers”, so they very well may end up at the back of the drawer.

The overall value of Husband’s May 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $36 for his $20 subscription.  I don’t think this is one of his favorite boxes, but will probably depend on how much he ends up liking the boxers.  I think that’s probably the riskiest thing about Birchbox Man is that if you don’t like the lifestyle item, the box can be a flop.  We’ve definitely had a lot of “wins” though, so overall I think it works out good for Husband!

21 Bundles Month 3 (July 2014) Review

My 3 month 21 Bundles box arrived in the mail the other day!  I couldn’t wait to see what was inside!

My 3 month bundle was all about cleaning up your bathroom sundries to make your showering experience “au natural.”

July boxes2 012

21 Bundles costs $39.99 per month, $109.99 for 3 months ($36.66/month), or $209.99 for 6 months ($35/month).

21 Bundles catch is they deliver hand selected natural products tailored to your stage of pregnancy and the first year of your baby’s life.  9 months pregnancy + 12 months = 21 bundles!

Use coupon code “FRIEND” to save $10 off your first bundle!

July boxes2 014

Nourish Organic Deodorant in Lavender Mint – 2.2 0z (FULL SIZE) – $9.99

Gah!  I don’t know what to do here.  I already found a natural deodorant that I LOVE (Primal Pit Paste Stick in Unscented) after trying (and failing) on many others!  I’m just afraid to try this and I hate it and I’ll never use it.  For that reason only, I will likely end up swapping this item; BUT I love that they included an item such as this in their box!

Deep Steep Foaming Hand Wash – 8 fl oz (FULL SIZE) – $6.95

We made the switch to “natural” hand washes awhile ago (after I read some horrifying things about triclosan!) and fortunately I’m not nearly as picky about my hand soap as I am about my deodorant!  I’ll add this to the stock of hand washes 🙂

July boxes2 016

JASON Power Smile Toothpaste – 6 oz (FULL SIZE) – $6.39

I’m kind of excited to give this a try – I’ve tried a few different Tom’s toothpastes, and had very mixed feelings about them (sometimes my mouth just didn’t feel as clean?)  I have seen the JASON brand around, but now I’ll get to try!

J.R. Liggett’s Shaving Foam – 7 oz (FULL SIZE) – $9.99

I have a couple of different natural shave gels/foams, but again, haven’t found “the one” yet – so excited to give this a try also!

July boxes2 018

Erba Organics Foot and Leg Refresher – 4 ml – $0.56

Huh – I think this is basically a souped up lotion!  I love lotion, so will definitely use (I won’t even complain about the foil packet 😉 )

Acure Body Lotion – 10 ml? – $0.50?

I have tried the Acure brand several times and always am impressed!  And again, it’s lotion, so awesome! 🙂

Big Dippers Wax Works Candle in Balance – 1.7 oz (12 hr burn) – $5.50

Oh my goodness, I LOVE the scent of this candle!  I think it’s honestly one of my favorite things in the box!  I am totally saving this for relaxing bath time!

I paid $40 for my 21 Bundles box and received approximately $40 worth of product.  I am so on the fence on whether or not to keep this box.  I hate that it doesn’t have a higher value (especially when I won’t use everything); BUT I love the full size products and the new brands that they find!  I’m so torn.  I’m hoping some of you out there can help me out??  What is your favorite pregnancy subscription box??  Do you have a different one that you would recommend?  I have signed up for Ecocentric Mom-to-Be box (should bet getting my first one shortly – it’s an every other month box); but have also been looking at Bluum?  Hoping for some input!

The Barber (July 2014) Bespoke Post Review

Husband’s July 2014 Bespoke Post “The Barber” box arrived the other day – here’s what was inside:

 July boxes2 028

$45/Month (can opt out any month)

 July boxes2 030

Double Edge Safety Razor by Standard Razors – $79

So Husband has been shaving with a safety razor for quite a while now (about a year?) and he also has a “Guide to Gourmet Shaving” book that has officially made it’s rounds with ALL of his friends – which they all shave with safety razors now too!  He went down this route due to problems with razor burn caused by the “5-blade” razors.

Anyway – in the book the guy (the author?) uses this razor.  So even though he had a safety razor, he opted for this month’s box anyway.  He shaved with this razor for the first time this morning, and I swear it was like watching a kid in a candy shop!  He absolutely loved it!  I don’t know much about safety razors, but apparently this one is the bee’s knees!  So with this one item alone, he more then got his value out of the box!

Razor Blades – (2) 5 packs – $2

So this is another great part about safety razors, the blades are SUPER cheap!  I didn’t add a link above, but just go to Amazon and search!  When Husband started out on this journey we bought him a HUGE mixed pack of all different types of blades so he could figure out which ones he likes best (everyone’s hair is different so ones he loves his friends hate, and vice versa).  I think he still has a bunch of those left (and not sure if these are repeats), but I know he’ll at least try them!

Gentleman Jon Alum Block – $6

This is actually something Husband doesn’t have yet for shaving, so I think he was pretty excited!  He doesn’t knick himself often, but it does happen – the alum block is meant to help stop bleeding by closing up your pores.

July boxes2 033

Elizabeth Street Shaving Cream – 2 oz – $12

Husband switches it up all the time between creams and soaps.  I honestly don’t know what he prefers?  He gets so many samples with his Birchbox Man, I think that’s why he does so much variation?  Nevertheless, this will get used too!

Barber Towel – $5?

I am not sure a brand on this towel, so totally guessing on price.  Again this is something that Husband doesn’t have, so I’m curious to see how he likes it!  The hot towel is a staple of the “barber shop” experience.  I know they sell towel warmers (not that you need it) but thinking that’d be a good gift idea in the future if he loves this step!

Husband paid $45 and received approximately $104 worth of product for the July 2014 The Barber Bespoke Post!  I know he is over the moon with this month’s box and I would have to say based on his reaction, I would DEFINITELY recommend this box to any man in your life that isn’t happy with his normal shave routine!  The only items that aren’t included that I know H would recommend is a badger shaving brush (he has a ~$60 one that some guys in Wisconsin hand make, unfortunately I don’t know the brand off hand – anyway, he LOVES that one – the previous one he had kept shedding like crazy), some after shave oil (again, not sure which brand, but I know that is something he loves using), and of course, the infamous Guide to Gourmet Shaving book.  You will be their hero.

This has quickly become one of Husband’s favorite boxes and I know he can’t wait to see what boxes Bespoke Post releases next month!

July 2014 Saffron Rouge’s Inner Circle Review

My July 2014 Saffron Rouge Inner Circle arrived the other day…  Here’s what was inside:

July boxes2 001

What is Saffron Rouge’s Inner Circle?  According to their website, “Receive a beautiful package of deluxe samples from various leading and upcoming organic beauty brands from around the world.  These self indulgent little packages include premium samples and an informative letter describing each of your treats.  The best part is that you also receive a discount code to save on your favorite full sized versions from the package.”

Saffron Rouge’s Inner Circle costs $24.99/month.

 July boxes2 005

Tallulah Jane Aiyana Body Oil – 1 ml – $0.30

I haven’t really gotten on the body oil wagon; however, I know it’s supposed to be really good for stretch marks, so I will end up giving this a try!  The scent is a bit much for me right now, but maybe in a month or so I’ll be able to handle it!

Weleda Millet Nourishing Shampoo – 18 ml – $1.05

I’ve been wanting to try the Weleda brand for awhile; I only wish they would have sent a conditioner sample as well!  I hate having solo shampoos or conditioners… is it just me?  I’ll blame the OCD on that one!

Lilo Lolo Blush – FULL SIZE – $18

I have to say I’m PUMPED for this!! 1) it’s full size and  2) I’ve been using a “mineral” blush, but to be honest, the color is a little dark for me and it’s REALLY easy to over do it!  This soft pink looks way more up my alley!  Can’t wait to try this out!

July boxes2 007

Primavera Revitalizing Serum – 3 ml total – $8

I’ve gotten several of the Primavera samples from SRIC in the past – and they always seem to work well!  I’m not too excited about the foil samples… but then again, they have a high value even with the small amount, so I guess I get it!

Bamboo Tapioca Beads – 0.2 oz – $4

I have to say I’m not really sure what these are for… Apparently you are supposed to mix them with different items (oil, etc.) and they can be used as different things??  For some reason this is just really confusing to me… Will probably end up swapping just for the sake that it’s easier – ha!

July boxes2 009

Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloth – 2 cloths – $1.03

Now these I will use!  I can’t wait to see how well they work for removing makeup!

Vapour Elixir Plumping Lip Gloss: Vivid – FULL SIZE – $22

I wish somewhere there was a little box you could check that said never send me lip gloss.. LOL!  I just don’t use them.  I’m sure this is a wonderful brand, but I’ll end up swapping it otherwise it’ll sit around and collect dust.

I paid $24.99 for this month’s box and received approximately $54 worth of product!  I feel as if this one of their lower value months, and although there was a ton of samples, I do prefer when they stick with deluxe/full size versus all of the smaller samples… However, I’m quite excited about a few of these products (especially the blush), so I’ll let it slide!

Saffron Rouge does not have a referral program, but they do have a rewards program:  if you click “Customer Service” on the bottom, then “Rewards Program”, and then “Check your Balance” you can see your current rewards.  Each Saffron Rouge Inner Circle Box is worth 75 points, and each review you write is worth 25 points.  It takes 2,750 points for a $50 gift card, so each box nets you $1.36 in points and each review gives you $0.45 in points.  Definitely not the best rewards system, but it DOES exist!

21 Bundles Month 2 (June 2014) Review

I wrote this post when I received my first 21 Bundles box but waited to publish until the proverbial cat was out of the bag!

The Box:

My 2 month bundle was all about replacing items in your shower to use more natural products!

SRIC21BJun14 002

Let’s just say that holy cats they crammed this box full!!

The Cost:

21 Bundles costs $39.99 per month, $109.99 for 3 months ($36.66/month), or $209.99 for 6 months ($35/month).

21 Bundles catch is they deliver hand selected natural products tailored to your stage of pregnancy and the first year of your baby’s life.  9 months pregnancy + 12 months = 21 bundles!

Use coupon code “FRIEND” to save $10 off your first bundle!

The Goods:

SRIC21BJun14 003

Acure Lemongrass and Argan Stem Cell Shampoo and Conditioner – 8 fl oz each – $9.99 ea = $19.98

I literally was saying about a week before these arrived that I wanted to look at switching out my shampoo and conditioner to all natural brands.  Lucky for me, I’ve been majorly procrastinating lately – as these arrived right on time!  I’ve never tried the Acure brand shampoo and conditioner before, but I know I used one of their other products and liked it (I think it was lotion?)  Plus love that these are full size!

Earth Mama Angel Baby Organics Morning Wellness Tea – 16 tea bags – $5.97

I’ve definitely had mornings where peppermint tea works wonders for me.  It seems that I’m usually OK as long as I keep food in my stomach though – nevertheless, I’m sure these’ll get used at some point!

SRIC21BJun14 006

Earth Mama Angel Baby Happy Mama Spray – 1 fl oz – $3.24

Not going to lie – this has already saved me once, and I’m sure it will again.  It really works!!  I just sprayed a little on my wrist and inhaled a lot and the nausea went away!

One With Nature Peppermint Dead Seam Minerals Soap – 7 oz – $4.49

I don’t generally use bar soap (more of a body wash type of person), but will throw this in the soap pile and will get to it eventually I’m sure.

Mambino Organics Mandarin Creme Organic Body Wash – 2 fl oz – $4

There we go!  I really like the mandarin scent of this also!  Will totally use this!

SRIC21BJun14 007

Hydrating Floral Essence The Power of Rose – 0.5 ml? – ~$1

I think these last few items are “extras” for the box, so lower value, but nice to fill out the box!

Nine Naturals Shampoo and Conditioner – 7 ml each – $5

The nine naturals brand is really interesting to me – the are dedicated “to creating chemical-free, high-performing products for women and educating mothers about the potential risks of environmental toxins.”  I won’t be able to tell how much I like their product from these small samples, but am hoping future packages feature this brand!

The Verdict:

I paid $30 for my first 21 Bundles box (used a coupon code) and received approximately $44 worth of product.  Had I paid full price, I would have basically received my value back – so not the highest value; however, love that they help to find pregnancy safe items for me!  I am going to give this subscription at least another month to see how I feel at that time!

What is your favorite pregnancy subscription box??

July 2014 Goodebox Review

Here’s what was in my July 2014 Goodebox:

July boxes 021

$18/month and you can sign up for either monthly or bi-monthly membership

July boxes 022

Balanced Guru No Frizz Balancing Oil – 0.5 oz – $13

I’m not a big hair oil type person, which is funny since I do have semi frizzy/wavy hair… I’ve gotten some samples in the past and they just never really impressed me that much.  I will likely end up swapping this item.

Lauren Brooke Finishing Powder – 4.5 g – $12.75

Now this I will use!  I’m currently using a bare minerals veil for finishing powder, but can’t wait to give this item a try!

July boxes 024

LA Fresh Nail Polish Remover Pads – 3 count – $1.65

It still surprises me that LA Fresh is an eco brand!  I don’t know why… maybe because I’ve heard of them for quite a while and just never associated them with being eco?

Pure Natural Diva Body and Hand Wash – 1 oz – $3.33

Pure Natural Diva Organic Sugar Scrub -1  oz – $5

Pure Natural Diva Body and Room Spray – 1 oz – $5

I’m glad they wrapped these products well, as the sugar scrub leaked a little.  Not enough that it appears like any product is missing, but can definitely tell there’s been a leak.  Overall, excited to try a new (to me) product line!

I paid $18 for my July 2014 Goodebox and received approximately $40 worth of product!  Although I like this subscription box, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with samples recently.  I haven’t made up my mind if I’m going to cancel yet or not, but I have to admit I’m on the fence.  Maybe I’ll give it another month and see if August’s box wows me!

June 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box Review

Here’s the review for our June 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box!  I swear I’m going to sit down and catch up on some reviews today – sorry I’ve been majorly slacking everyone!

  July boxes 016

(I LOVE the new product sheets!!)

Fancy Box costs (regardless of the curator):

$39 for monthly subscription + 7.95 shipping/month
$115 for 3 month subscription ($38.33/month) + 7.95 shipping/month
$225 for 6 month subscription ($37.50/month) + 7.95 shipping/month
$330 for 9 month subscription ($36.67/month) + 7.95 shipping/month
$425 for 12 month subscription ($35.42/month) + 7.95 shipping/month

  July boxes 017

Barmop & Clean Cloth – $20

These are cute cloths – we don’t have a bar, but I’m sure they’ll find a use in the kitchen!

July boxes 018

Pewter Oven Mitt – $19

We have a few oven mitt’s in the kitchen already, but again I’m sure this will get used!

Stainless Aerator Whisk – $8

I’m not sure how this whisk will compare to the existing ones we have?  But we’ll give it a shot!

 July boxes 019

Tyler Florence Fresh – $35

Husband seemed pretty excited about this book!  I’ll be excited with what he cooks out of it – ha!

We paid ~$47 for our June 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box and received an estimated $82 worth of product!  Although we like the Tyler Florence box, we decided to cancel our fancy subscription altogether just due to cost.  The $47 a month is hard to justify when we get a bunch of items that we already have something similar to, or could just take the money and go purchase.  We may try this again someday, but for now, our kitchen is already bursting at the seams full!
