Juniperseed Merchantile Order Review

After receiving my Eco Emi Special Edition Cleaning Box, I started stocking one of the companies featured (Juniperseed Merchantile) and decided to place an order!

The Order:

BBandJSMorders 005BBandJSMorders 003

The Review:

Ecofriendly Washable Trio of Damp or Dry Mopping Pads – 3 pads – $10

I purchased these to replace the swiffer dry pads that I have been using for our hard floors – and they work great!  I used one this weekend and know these will be a permanent replacement for me!  Not sure if I’ll try them wet or not (we have a Norwex mop that I like to use for wet floors).  This also came with a free sample bottle of the floor cleaner concentrate!

Flannel Unpaper Towels – half a dozen 8″ x 10″ – $13

So far, these have been a hit!  We decided to use as napkins instead of paper towels (they are actually smaller then I thought they’d be) – but they are awesome for napkin replacements!  My only problem is we only have 6!  Ha!

Soothe Your Sniffer Peppermint and Eucalyptus Shea Butter – 1 oz – $5

Haven’t really used this item yet (that’s a good thing!) so don’t have much to say here!

Mineral Unscented Sunscreen – 4 oz – $14

Haven’t tried this item yet either – but I’m sure I will as we get out more this summer! Update – I tried this item, and warning, it leaves a VERY prominent white coating everywhere.  Does not absorb into the skin at all.  I will still use this, just will need to make sure I only use it when I’m not planning on leaving the house for anything!  I can’t attest to how well it works, as I wiped it all off (more like scrubbed, it didn’t go easy) and put different sunscreen on (my legs were glowing with the white coating).

Ecofriendly Furniture Dusting Spray – 8 oz – $6

Used this dusting spray this weekend and LOVED it!  I actually purchased two of these, but they missed one in my first order – and email to the company and it was here like 2 days later!!  Amazing customer service! 🙂  But back to the dusting spray – amazing.  Seriously.  I shall never use pledge again!

The Extras Shown Above:

Floor Cleaner Concentrate – small bottle

As stated above, received this with my floor cleaning pads!  I’m sure it’ll get used, just haven’t had the chance yet!

Sink and Tub Scrub – sample

Haven’t tried this sample yet, but will be used the next time we clean the tub! 🙂

The Verdict:

I am in LOVE with everything that I’ve tried that I received in my order and am already stalking some other items on their site!  And the best part?  Free shipping over orders of $50+!  Highly recommend everyone to check out their site here!

June 2014 Birchbox Man Review

Husband’s June 2014 Birchbox Man arrived last week Saturday (a mere day after they posted shipping for it!), but just getting to the review now!

THE BOX:

(Husband got box 24 this month – how do you tell?  Log in to birchbox and scroll down to the box history, click the link and the last one or two digits (https://www.birchbox.com/men/box/june-2014/june-2014-bb24) are the box number – you can see all of the other boxes by changing this number!)

  SFBBManTFFB 030

SFBBManTFFB 028

THE COST:

Men’s Subscription ($20/Month):  Grooming products and accessories ranging from socks to tech accessories

THE GOODS:

Overview of his box from Birchbox:

SFBBManTFFB 031

English Laundry Tahitian Waters – 2 ml – $1.70

Mmm – this smells amazing!  I really like all the different cologne samples Husband receives in his boxes!

Baxter of California Facial Scrub – 0.5 fl oz – $2.13

I’m sure this’ll get use – not much else to say about it though!

Billy Jealousy Beard Wash – 1 oz – $2.50

I’m not sure why Husband got another “beard” item in his box – I’m fairly certain that he filled out the online profile that said he did NOT have a beard, so not sure why we got this item.  Will likely end up being swapped.

SFBBManTFFB 033

Tommy John Loafer Liners – 2 pack – $16.50

Husband doesn’t have loafers, but he does have a pair of Sanuk shoes that these will probably work with?  This is the item that we could have picked either the socks, a card holder, or “surprise me”.  Husband chose the surprise me option, but I think he wishes it would have been an item different from the two offered!

Proper Bar Soap – 1 oz – $2.40

Hm – we have a LOT of soap in this house.  I kind of went on a crazy the past couple years at farmers markets purchasing handmade soaps… LOL  This will actually probably end up getting donated with all of the other “hotel” samples.

*Side note on this, whenever we stay at a hotel, we take all of the shampoos/soap bars/etc. and then donate them to a food shelf once a year.  It doesn’t cost us anything (the cost is built into the rate of the room right?) and it’s a “free” extra donation to someone in need.  We stole this idea from a coworker of Husbands, and have to say it’s awesome.  Last year it was a solid Target bag FULL of samples on top of our other donations!

THE VERDICT:

The overall value of Husband’s June 2014 Birchbox Man was approximately $25 for his $20 subscription.  I think this is probably his least favorite box yet, but we’ll just mark this one as a miss and hope next month’s is better!

Stitch Fix #7 (June 2014) Review

My Stitch Fix #7 was also waiting for me when I got home today!!  This is by far my favorite subscription box to receive each month!

THE PREVIEW:

 SFBBManTFFB 022

If I keep everything in my box, it will cost me $237 with the $20 styling fee and the 25% discount – eek!

THE COST:

$20 a month styling fee – then the cost of clothing (read more here).

THE GOODS:

The best part about Stitch Fix is the styling cards they send with each item – really helps inept people such as myself with how to wear said items!

 SFBBManTFFB 019SFBBManTFFB 008

Papermoon Tina Striped Open Cardigan – $48 $38 (on the checkout page – this item was actually listed at $38 instead of $48 – WIN!!)

I don’t know what it is, but I can’t help myself when it comes to cardigans.  I just love them, and I can never seem to have too many!  This one is nice and lightweight also, so it will be GREAT for summer evenings!

Verdict = KEPT!

 SFBBManTFFB 018SFBBManTFFB 017SFBBManTFFB 002

Market and Spruce Shiva Grid Print Mixed Material Top – $48 and Deboce Straight Leg Jean – $108

OK – first the top.  I actually liked this top, buuttt… to me it was too similar to the mixed material grid top I kept last month!  To be honest, when I did the “sneak” peak at what was coming in this month’s box, I was convinced they actually sent me the same top twice!  Husband said I’m crazy and they aren’t similar at all.. I don’t know, I just couldn’t get over it.

Verdict = Returned

And now the jeans… oh the jeans.. First off, they are white.  I do NOT wear white jeans.  Not that I’m opposed to other people wearing them, I just am too much of a klutz to wear white pants without spilling on them at least 10 times!  Also, these were VERY tight – like I wasn’t even certain I was going to be able to get into them for a picture (but with some tenacity, I managed to pull it off!)  Also, you can’t tell from the photo, but these didn’t have a button or zipper – so they were kind of like leggings, but jeans… jeggings?

Verdict = Returned

SFBBManTFFB 020SFBBManTFFB 013

41Hawthorn Sheila Bead Collar Detail Dress – $78

Alright – so sorry for the bra shot, but I think that point iterates how uncomfortable I was in this dress.  It just wasn’t flattering on me – I’m not really sure why… and to top that off – some of the material already had pulls in it:

SFBBManTFFB 016

Even if it fit perfectly, it would have been returned just due to the poor quality of the material itself.

Verdict = Returned

SFBBManTFFB 021SFBBManTFFB 005

Renee C Rosenberg Dip-Dye Cross-Front Top – $54

This top probably looks cute on some, I just didn’t like how it “opened” at the bottom to show your stomach (perhaps a little difficult to tell in the photo with the white tank top underneath) – anyway, let’s just say I wasn’t very comfortable in this to just try on, so not something I want to keep in the closet.

Verdict = Returned

THE VERDICT:

So I only found one item that I wanted to keep from this month’s fix, but I LOVE the top that I kept, so still considering Stitch Fix a complete win!  As long as I can find one item each month, it’s totally worth it to me!  I will end up paying $28 $18 for the top (including my $20 styling fee discount), so not too bad!

Have you tried Stitch Fix yet?

Tyler Florence Fancy Box May 2014 Review

Our first Tyler Florence Fancy Box showed up in the mail today!  This is our first box since switching the subscription from the regular Fancy Box, so I couldn’t wait to see what was inside!

THE BOX:

  SFBBManTFFB 024

SFBBManTFFB 025

(I LOVE the new product sheets!!)

THE PRICE:

Fancy Box costs (regardless of the curator):

$39 for monthly subscription + 7.95 shipping/month
$115 for 3 month subscription ($38.33/month) + 7.95 shipping/month
$225 for 6 month subscription ($37.50/month) + 7.95 shipping/month
$330 for 9 month subscription ($36.67/month) + 7.95 shipping/month
$425 for 12 month subscription ($35.42/month) + 7.95 shipping/month

THE GOODS:

  SFBBManTFFB 027

Cheese Paper – $9

Apparently storing cheese in cheese paper makes it keep longer (better?)! We always have blocks of cheese on hand, so sure this one will get use!

Art and Cook Herb Mill – $20

This is awesome!! We have herbs in the garden – so when I harvest and let them dry out – they’ll totally be going through this for “grinding”!

Fish Turner – $12

Huh – we don’t own anything like this (well obviously we have spatulas), but nothing specific for fish!  I’m sure Husband will use it the next time fish is on the menu!

 SFBBManTFFB 026

Avocado Spoon – $10

I didn’t know such a thing existed!  Husband literally just got done making guacamole before we opened this box, otherwise I’m sure it would have even gotten used tonight!  Can’t wait to see how well it works!

Cherry & Olive Pitter – $15

We JUST purchased some fruit bushes for the south side of the house (why have regular bushes in when I can get something out of these :D) anyway – one of them was a dwarf cherry bush!  Ha!  It might be a year or two before I can use this, but when we have cherries, I’ll know which tool to grab right away!

Sourdough Starter – $13

Not going to lie, I’m not entirely certain what this is?  To make sourdough I guess?  Whatever it is, Husband was REALLY excited about this!

THE VERDICT

We paid ~$47 for our May 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box and received an estimated $79 worth of product!  And better yet?  We loved everything in the box!  YAY!  This box is totally more up our alley compared to the regular Fancy Box!  I already can’t wait to see what’s in next months!!

Birchbox Order Recap!

I normally don’t publish my Birchbox orders – but almost had to with this one!  What’d I get?

The Goods:

BBandJSMorders 001

Eco – Armour Shave with Benefits  – 5 oz – $18.95

This is the most I’ve ever “paid” for shaving foam – but that being said, used it tonight and loved it!

Karma Naturals Nail Polish Remover – 4 oz – $12

OOO!  Gave this a try too and seems to work great (only used on one nail)!  Can’t wait to give this the full test with a nice bright red or something! 🙂

Eshu Pre-Shave Oil – 1.7 oz – $15

Will have to get review from Husband and report back later on this item

And the extras..

Davines Oi Shampoo – 12 ml – $1.11

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel – 2.5 ml/0.085 fl oz – $6.68

The Cost:

I received approximately $53 worth of product and paid (are you ready?) $6.76!  🙂  I received the extras for free (order over $35), used offer “WELCOMEOFFER20” for 20% off, and used 300 rewards points ($30)!  I LOVE Birchbox‘s rewards program!  I wish some other boxes would step up and take notice!!

I think that’s about the best we’ve done so far for Birchbox purchases!  And I’m super excited for my two new items!

Sephora Sun Safety Kit 2014 Review

My Sephora Sun Safety Kit 2014 arrived yesterday!  Here’s what was inside:

The “Box”:

SephoraSSK

The Cost:

The Sephora Sun Safety Kit sold for $32 (one time purchase) – it is sold out online, but may still be available in stores if you are lucky!

The Goods:

SephoraSSK2014 004

bareMinerals READY Touch Up Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Translucent – FULL SIZE – $22

This is by far the item that I am most excited about in this box!  And since it’s worth 2/3’s of the value that I paid, the rest I’m just going to consider icing on the cake!

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer – 0.14 oz – $12

I have a feeling that the color on this one will be a little dark for me (medium/deep) so will probably just swap – already have a bronzer that I use.  Had this been all natural, I would have given it a try!

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 – 0.08 oz – $12

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  I actually really like that it’s clear also!  I always say I have TONS of lip glosses, etc. but a clear SPF?!  YEP!  Love it!

SephoraSSK2014 005

Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 – 0.23 fl oz – $8

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  I do wish I would have gotten the translucent or non colored formula (that are shown in the link – I don’t think there was any variations to the Sun Safety Kit).  I think this will just be too dark for me.

St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse – 50 ml/1.69 fl oz – $18

No parabens, sulfates or phthalates!  I am just not a bronzing type of person… extremely pale + bronze = eww… haha (if you didn’t notice yet, this whole “section” will be bronzers/tanners so will have the similar negative connotation from me.)

Tarte Brazilliance Skin Rejuvenating Maracuja Self Tanner – 0.5 fl oz – $3.55

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates! but again a tanner…

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Glow Pad – 1 towelette – $1.80

No parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petro chemicals, phthalates, GMOs, OR triclosan! (the list is getting better!!) but again… still a tanner.

SephoraSSK2014 007

Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 20 – 0.5 fl oz – $22.50

No parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs, or triclosan!  This item will be going on the top of the pile for a daily moisturizer this summer!  Yay!!

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Glow Moisture – 0.06 fl oz – $2.52

No parabens, sulfates or phthalates! … and apparently I missed a “tanner” in the previous section.. haha whoops!

Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion – 0.5 fl oz – $12.35

No sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs or triclosan!  Another one I’m super excited for!!  Bring it on summer!

Supergoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50 – 1 fl oz – $11

No parabens, sulfates or phthalates!  And it’s sooo fancy looking!  AND a SPF 50!!  This is going to be my gardening go to for shoulders, etc!

SephoraSSK2014 011

Origins A Perfect World SPF 25 Age-Defense Moisturizer – 0.5 fl oz – $12.06

No parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs or triclosan!  Yep, will use this up too!

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ For Face – 0.64 oz – $10.40

Hm.. no “no” list for this one… boo.  Nevertheless, it’ll still get used.  Hopefully won’t clog the pores too much (SPF 50 for the face always scares me a little…)

Ole Henriksen Protect the Truth SPF 50+ Broad Spectrum UV Protection – 0.5 fl oz – $10.29

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  This is also for neck and face!  and back to having a “no” list! 🙂

Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA++ – 0.33 fl oz – $7.67

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  This item is meant for acne prone skin!  I’m sure I’ll use this one right up as a daily moisturizer!

Clarins UV Plus HP Multi-Purpose Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen – 0.3 fl oz – $7.24

No “no” list here either (boo), but it’ll still get used!

The Extras:

SephoraSSK2014 003

As mentioned when posting the spoiler that this box was headed my way, I got three free samples for purchasing over $25, plus a deluxe sample with coupon code “PROTECT”!  Here’s what I got:

Origins Smarty Plants CC SPF 20 Skin Complexion Corrector – no size – $1?

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  I like that they sent a light to medium and medium to deep samples.  Will only use the light to med one, but at least they tried to cater to everyone!

Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Illuminating Beauty Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 – 0.03 fl oz – $1

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  Ha!  I didn’t even notice when I picked the samples out that this is exactly the same as the “bronzer” sample above – but not bronzer!  Yay!  Totally will try this!

MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Creme Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen – 0.053 oz – $1

No parabens, sulfates, or phthalates!  Also didn’t notice that this sample was tinted when I grabbed it.. haha oh well.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 – 0.17 fl oz – $4.42

No sulfates or phthalates!  Same response as normal – will totally use this!

The Verdict:

I paid $32 for the Sephora Sun Safety Kit 2014 and received approximately $173 worth of product (without considering the value of the bag – which is totally going to be my new sunscreen holder bag – I need a spot with all these samples!!), which is pretty close to the $177 value promised (again with no bag!)  In addition, I also received approximately $7 worth of sample products!  Even though a few of the samples weren’t for me (tanners/bronzers) – this bag was AMAZING and will keep me stocked in sunscreen for awhile!
